The practical training college is designed for 800 students in the Malian village of Sangha. It will provide the area with a construction and agricultural education facility. The village of Sangha lies in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage area in the Dogon area in Mali. Therefore it places specific demands on building a large school. The diverse educational program that will be offered in the practical training college is the first of its kind in Mali. Students will be specifically trained to be a mason, farmer, beekeeper, electrician or installer of water pumps, which relates to the problematic conditions and needs of the region.
The Foundation Stichting Dogon Onderwijs (SDO) has been active in Mali since 1995. Its purpose is to support and encourage education in the Dogon region to improve the quality of life sustainably. The foundation works in collaboration with local entrepreneurs and the local community to realize school buildings, wells and dams.
Stichting Dogon Onderwijs (SDO) raises funds to support and encourage education in the Dogon country, and to improve quality of life in a sustainable manner. SDO also funded the construction of the first buildings of the Technical Lyceum ensemble in Sangha.
The foundation supports local initiatives that respond to community requirements. It is essential that the community itself invests manpower or finance, so that they become owners of the project. Only that which the community cannot do itself is eligible for support. SDO collaborates with the motivated Malian partner organization ADI (Association Dogon initiative), who carry out all the projects.
