The summer village is located on an Italian coastline trait of the Adriatic Sea in the Marche region, in Marina di Rocca Priora, which is a borough of Falconara Marittima. Here individuals have created their own personal utopia in a self-build village located in close vicinity to the “api” oil refinery, a six-floor hotel now transformed into a motel-residency, a XII century building (Rocca Priora), production activities, infrastructures and a polluted naturalistic area (the mouth of the Esino River).
Throughout the nineteenth century, Falconara had been a flourishing seaside resort where fishermen shelters were alternated with villas in liberty style. The seaside borough was an aspiring tourist destination due to the mild climate, well-equipped and cozy beaches, and the comfort of rail connections between Ancona-Rimini and Ancona-Foligno.
In a majority of cases the prefabricated tin-plated garages are the basic modular units for building homes in the village. Each module is 3 meters wide and 6 meters long (with variations in some cases) and each has its own peculiarities: some have been perched to different heights above the ground reusing old electric poles (this is an original characteristic of the palafittes of this villages) and accessed by a rustic ladder, some have been amplified, insulation panels have been added from the inside and different materials in a huge variety of patterns have been used for the external cladding.
