On the Seto Inland Sea a short ferry ride from the large art island of Naoshima, sea sits the Inujima art project by Simbuichi Architects. Designed in conjunction the Japanese artist Yukinori Yanagi the structure is both a container for and an integral part of the exhibition. The reinsertion of architecture into the former copper smelter creates a mediating narrative: a commune of art and architecture, ruins and futures, an insurgent nature with former toxicity, and the pastoral vistas of the sea with the mass of heavy industry.
